Arthur Adams started BLAMMOS about 20 years ago, but has dedicated much of his time to his other project, space punk band The Phenomenauts, as well as his full-time career as a professional composer and filmmaker. Still, while his time was divided and BLAMMOS have always been on the backburner, it’s still been around that entire time, resulting in the interesting phenomenon where a 20-year-old band are constantly referred to as an emerging new artist. It’s been a long 10 years of Adams working on the band’s new album very slowly, but now BLAMMOS’ new album Sometimes I Wish You Were Dead is ready to be unveiled to the world. With inspiration from ’70’s new wave and power pop like Elvis Costello and The Pretenders and ’60’s pop like the Beach Boys and The Zombies, the new album promises to be a power pop powerhouse.
Today, BLAMMOS are debuting their new single off of the upcoming record, and, appropriately enough, it’s a Beatles cover. The original Beatles’ version of “You Won’t See Me” appeared on their legendary 1965 album Rubber Soul, which marked the beginning of their transition from pop boy band to the art rock visionaries they would become in their later career. BLAMMOS’ cover maintains the gorgeous pop melodies of the Beatles’ original and adds a touch more punk distortion on the guitar to give it more of a modern edge. With the added dynamic of contrasting masculine and feminine vocals, the song adds a dimension that The Beatles’ version never had. The video is bathed in bright neon colors and video effects, making it a pop-art spectacle worthy of the 1960s themselves. Check out the video below.
Sometimes I Wish You Were Dead is out on December 6, and you can preorder it from Bandcamp. Follow BLAMMOS on Facebook and Instagram for future updates.
